Contemporary dance
duration about 25 minutes (work in progress)
year 2019-2023

While I started this dance project with choreographer Hui-chen Chen, she was expecting her first child. During our creating process, we started to ask what fetus ’s first physiological feelings were in the dark. It is about touch, hearing, vestibular system and proprioception.

« Evolvere » is therefore a research of the body’s sensory. Under a membrane the body slides, floats, wriggles around, moves as if it were in water or in mud. Is it an amoeba? An aquatic animal or a fetus in amniotic fluid? While dancing in a limited and enclosed space, with an ambiguous border, we question about the sense of inside and outside, of freedom and constraint.

Inspired by theories of evolution, we developed intuitive and primitive animals’ movements. We realized that pregnancy indeed sums up the evolution of living organisms and ontogenesis. Musician Hsiao-yun Tseng joined this project in 2022 and together we continue our research in fetal sensations with live music and choreography.

With Hui-chen we found collectif Forme Ose which unifies artistes from diverse discipline: dance, music, performance and video. « Evolvere » is the first project of this group.
